The Grant County Board of Commissioners write in opposition to the land purchases planned or
proposed by the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife totaling 20 pieces of land
covering over 13,000 acres. We are generally opposed to the continual purchase of more and
more private lands by state and federal governments. We do not, for the most part, see a benefit
to the communities nor the general benefits to the environment. Our private landowners
consistently seem to take better care of their land while government entities seem to be stretched
too thin to do a good job of that. We believe there is less fire danger in private hands and that
grazing and agriculture, etc. taking place on private lands is much healthier for the environment
and provides more opportunity and prosperity for our citizens. So, along with our cattle ranchers,
farmers, and many of our citizens, we again voice our concern over these potential purchases.
Sincerely,
BOARD OF'- 7-rT COUNTY COM.MISSIONE S
