Grant County Veteran Services P O Box 37 Ephrata WA 98823 (509) 754-2011 Ext -2931 Board of County Commissioners July 19, 2019 Re: Budget Extension for Veteran Services The Veteran Services Department is requesting a budget extension in the amount of $ 75,000.00. This budget extension request is necessary due to the high volume of Veteran Assistance Claims being filed with the Grant County Veteran Assistance Fund (VAF) that have been processed this year and the request to hire apart -time County Service Officer. As of today, July 19, 2019, the VAF has utilized more than 80% of the direct assistance monies allocated for Veteran Assistance. This utilization amounts to an average of $ 14,771 / month. Based on these averages, the VAF will need an additional $60,000.00 to continue funding through December 31, 2019. Additionally, I am requesting an additional $15,000.00 to bring on a part-time County Veteran Service Officer (CVSO), per our previous conversations, for the remainder of 2019. This CVSO will have primary responsibilities of writing vouchers for the VAF and processing VA Claims for our County Veterans. Budget forecasts for 2020 will include this position. The total request of this budget extension, $75,000.00, will come from the Veteran Assistance Fund Reserve. Respectfully &crT CQlnoch Jerry Gingrich Director, Grant County WA Veteran Services Cc: M.
