The Veteran Services Department is requesting a purchase card (credit card) for the Veteran
Services Department. This is credit card would be utilized for Veteran Services and the
immediate need of Veterans. Currently, if a Veteran requires "immediate assistance" (i.e. power
shut-off, etc). we are required to submit a voucher, process through the BOCC signature process
and then through the accounting process. This can take as little as 4 hours or up to several days.
MRSC, in their "Credit Card Use Policies" brief, recommends Washington local governments
utilize credit cards for accountability. Additionally, the State of Washington Office of Financial
Management recommends individually assigned cards, rather than shared cards, to provide better
accountability and fraud protection.
Pending your approval, I am recommending a $2,500.00 monthly credit limit for Veteran
Services.
