Washington Approve Disapproy Abstain Dist it l & Dist #I Dist #1 Dist k2 ] Dist #2 Dist k2 Vsstt # Dist #3 Dist #3 The purpose of this memorandum is to request approval for Indigent Defense Contractors to obtain the identification tags that will enable them to bypass security. Background: Employee badges are required to bypass security when entering the Law and Justice Building. That area includes the Sherriff's office, the Prosecuting Attorney's office, the Clerk's office, Superior Court and the multipurpose conference room. These are all area where the Indigent Defense Contractor's may need to be on a regular basis. The contactors on busy court days need to pass through security several times per day. The jail, the law library, and the Department of Public Defense are all are all areas on the other side of security and places the contractors need to frequent. Sherriff Jones has been consulted on this. I understand he has no objection to the Indigent Defense Contractors having these identification tags in order to bypass security. The County contracts with these attorneys. They are expected to be efficient and to provide excellent indigent services. This action will help them do the job they are expected to do. Budget Impact: Any budget impact would be minor. The cost of the tags themselves would be the only necessary cost. If the county pays for a background check, the cost would be about $50 each. Request: My request is for the BOCC to allow our Indigent Defense Contractors to obtain identification badges that allow them to bypass the security checkpoints, the same as courthouse employees. Questions for BOCC if Approved: YES I NO Is a background check required? If a background check is required, may the DPD pay for the background check? Will the board require approval from the board for ✓ each individual contractor? Will it be sufficient for the Director of Public Defense to designate who should receive the ID?
