RE: Letter in Support of FY24 AOC Funding — Continued Funding of Grants IAA23985 and GRT23008
Grant County Commissioners write in support of Grant County District Court's request for therapeutic
court funding for the upcoming State fiscal year (July 1, 2023, through June 30, 2024). The funding
received for the 2023 fiscal year has been used to create and establish the Grant County Community
Court, with funds focused primarily on the hiring of two positions, developing the program, and
obtaining training for the Court "team." The court launched April 26, 2023, with one active
participant. Further participants are in the process of being screened for the program. Additionally, the
Community Resource Specialist has begun working with defendants seeking to complete their court
obligations that would not qualify/necessarily benefit from the intensive Community Court model.
Therapeutic courts are proving to be successful in reducing recidivism and, more importantly, providing
persons with legal troubles to get the help they need to become positive, contributing members of our
communities. Grant County has seen a significant increase in crimes related to substance use and/or
mental health problems. Offering an alternative to the traditional punitive legal process makes sense.
We fully support the efforts of Grant County Community Court to seek continued grant funding to
support their programs.
Sincerely,
BOARD OF GRANT COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
