Re: Cisco products and the COVID-19 response
The COVID response has caused Central Services to acquire vast amounts of technology in a
very short period of time. These are products that have been made a requirement for County
employees to work from home, the Courts to continue their hearings, and Technology for the
Probation and District Court offices to track and gather information on probationers.
Some costs are known, Soft phones for example that have been required to be attached to laptops
are $5.00 per laptop and we have activated roughly 30-50 of these. The WebEx client we have
had to acquire so that virtual meetings could be held is an expensive purchase and we do not
have those costs as yet, Our supporting vendor has been able to provide some products on 30, 60,
or 90 day trials at no cost but there is some understanding that we will continue these services to
some degree once we get to our new normal.
The probation software is also on a 90 day probationary period, in order to do this, and have it at
no cost, the manufacturer will utilize Grant County's name in its marketing material to show
their rapid response during the COVID-19 pandemic. During the 90 day trial we will evaluate
that software and make a determination as to whether it suits the District Court's needs. If so we
will ask through consent and most likely a budget extension. If the District Court decides they no
longer need it, we can simply part ways.
These items were discussed with the Board and this letter memorializes that conversation.
