HomeMy WebLinkAboutRequest to Purchase - Sheriff & JailMarch 16, 2020 Board of County Commissioners: Grant County Office of The Board of County Commissioners P O Box 37 Ephrata WA 98823 (509)754-2011 The Sheriff s Office is requesting the Board authorize the procurement of a new Jail Inmate Kiosk system and recognizing it as an emergency for the COVID-19 pandemic response, thus foregoing the competitive bid process. The current system does not allow for at home video visitation with the inmates. Thus increasing the population of civilians in our lobby area of the jail. The lobby area of the jail is a shared common area with the regular public. As far as the current video visitation goes, the public shares handsets that can increase the exposure to the COVID-19 virus. There are also a population of elderly as well as young children who are susceptible to this virus as well. With HomeWav being able to provide kiosks in the dorms, as well as tablets, the visitation can be done with the visitors being home at their computers drastically reducing the population in our visitation area. As well as reducing the exposure to the virus. HomeWav will be providing kiosks in each dorm to be able to have visitation from inmate to visitor online. This eliminates the need for the public to be at the jail for visitations. Other agencies that are using HomeWav have seen an 85% or higher reduction in lobby visits.
