Re: Award NALCO contract for Chemical Cleaning of Chiller and Cooling System
During the 2018 preventative maintenance of the chiller it was noted that there was scale build
up on the cooling water tubes of the chiller. The chiller was ran thru the 2019 cooling season and
with improved support and monitoring additional scale buildup was not noted when opening the
system up for inspection at the conclusion of the cooling season. This scale buildup reduces the
efficiency of the chiller and it was evident during hot days last year when areas were getting
uncomfortably warm as the cooling water temp was above set point.
Analysis of the scale has shown it to contain calcium and silica. This scale can be removed by
circulation of chemicals to dissolve then neutralize the system. Nalco supplied the lowest bid to
provide this service for the cost of $2077, this does not include tax.
Therefore, I am recommending to the Board and asking for your approval to award this contract
to NALCO Water for the providing the chemicals and labor to remove the scale build up for the
chiller and cooling water systems for the quoted cost of $2077 plus tax. This project, if approved,
is estimated to be completed by April 10, 2019. The costs for this project would go to
126.168.009112.594736210, project title, Chiller LJB.
