The Department of Public Defense provides defense to indigent persons in Grant County Superior Court, District Court and the Juvenile Division of Superior Court. The Public Defense Receptionist is required to have an understanding of the role of public defense in good government. It is desired that each candidate have the ability to work with multiple people in an environment that may require instructions from multiple sources and balance primary duties. Experience working as a team member, computer literacy, communication skills, the ability to receive assignments and follow through with assignments and other characteristics of quality attorney support are desired. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The following examples of duties and accountabilities illustrate the general range of tasks assigned to the position but are not intended to define the limits of required duties. Other essential duties may be assigned consistent with the general scope of the position. Employee must comply with all County and department policies, procedures, WAC's, or other regulatory bodies. 1. Reception and Public Semite: Tasks include greeting public at a reception counter, directing visitors, assisting attorneys with routine paperwork and answering and directing telephone calls and taking messages. 2. Data entry: These tasks involve operating a computer keyboard to enter data on non -felony cases into pre -established data records. Entries may include data on such as information from police reports, names, dates of birth, incident reports and whether defendants were cited. 3. File set-up: This includes such tasks as preparing file control record sheets and file labels and inserting proper records into new files. EDUCATION EXPERIENCE, and LICENSING To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. PHYSICAL ABILITIES WORKING CONDITIONS The job is primarily a typical law office position that includes standard office hours.
