The current stalls are nearly 40 years old and are smaller at 10 x 10. The new stalls will be 12 x 12. 12 companies were solicited for bids with an established criteria. Six (6) companies responded and provided eight (8) quotes with varying panels. Our evaluation criteria included something that was durable so these stalls last at least 20 years and the panels had to be easy to maintain. Our preference was plywood inset panels at 3/ inch for ease of replacement and painting as well as metal that was thick and durable enough to withstand constant abuse from horses kicking. Attached is the pricing comparison. The two lowest bids came from Jamaica Tent Company. The problem with these two stall bids is the metal is only 1.25 square and will not withstand 20 years of use. These panels are better suited for temporary stalls, not permanent stalls. One of these bids was for poly panels, which are not as easy to replace as plywood. The other concern for these panels is that only the bottom rail is galvanized. The metal could deteriorate faster due to horse urine if not galvanized. The next quote was from S and R custom panels, highlighted on the comparison. Their quote provides a strong 15 gauge round tube wall at 15/8 inches. The panels are plywood and held together with butterfly clamps. The metal is also galvanized. This is a local Grant County Company and we feel they will provide excellent customer service if there is a problem in assembly or if warranty work is required. The funds for this purchase are from BEET and budgeted at $264,000. The proposed bid is $145,204.40. Please approve the purchase of (80) horse stalls from S and R Custom Panels at the above price. you for your consideration gncerely, Jim McKiernan, Director Fairgrounds Stall Bid, Barn 46/47 comparisons Company Product Name Plywood or Poly Thickness Steel Thickness Steel size Square or round Galvanized?
