Topics:
1. Change in Karen Lewis's position
2. Request for Funding for 4-H/youth program coordinator and Tree Fruit Specialist
Details:
1. Karen Lewis will be giving up her job as a Tree Fruit Specialist to become the full-
time Director of the WSU Extension Agriculture and Natural Resources Program.
a. Karen will remain house in the Grant County office, but not supported by
county funding
b. WSU will be hiring a new Tree Fruit Specialist in late -fall and winter. The
new Specialist will be located in our office. I
2. Over the past decade, the Grant County Extension office has dealt with reduced
funding by cancelling programs, losing personnel, and backfilling with grants,
foundation funds, and shifting county funds around. However, we have come to the
point that this will no longer work. The long-term Foundation funding for the 4-H
program ended several years ago, grants are not secure, and shifting county funding
around (MOA) is no longer possible. Therefore, we will be requesting an increase in
the county MOA with WSU Extension of $20,855.
This funding will
a. Provide full-time support to our 4-H coordinator at $25 per hour. WSU will
pay all benefits. Amount: $8686.
b. Provide funding to bring the county salary support for the new Tree Fruit
Specialist up to the 100% amount of $23,758. Again, WSU pays for all
benefits. Amount: $1.2,169
The WSU Grant County Extension office is committed to good stewardship of public funds.
We have kept our spending under our original approved county budget for thepast 8 years,
in some years significantly under budget.
