RE: Letter of SuDDOrt for SB 5460 and HB 1494
To: Washington State Legislature
Grant County Commissioners are writing in support of SB 5460 and its companion bill HB
1494. These bills have been introduced on behalf of the Moses Lake Irrigation and
Rehabilitation District. These bills would align the statutory language for the rehabilitation
assessment authority with that of some other local special purpose districts, specifically
Mosquito Control Districts.
This will create a more reliable form of local funding to carry out the vital and ongoing
rehabilitation work of the MLIRD. Local funding with local control empowers the Moses
Lake Irrigation and Rehabilitation District to work proactively and continuously to improve
the water quality in Moses Lake. This continued and ongoing improvement of the water
quality in Moses Lake is important to us because Moses Lake's water quality is critical to
not only our community's public health and safety but also our county's economic vitality.
