Re: Mattawa Drop Box Sustainability Report 2021

The Solid Waste Advisory Committee voted to make a recommendation to the Board in the Fall of 2020.
The recommendation included the closure of the Mattawa Drop Box. This was based on the to of
revenue due to the solid waste rates in 2020. The Mattawa drop box site was not generating the revenue
to cover expenses for the operations. The Board approved a rate increase to offset the expenditures.
The Board held a meeting February 23, 2021, to take public comment. The Public Hearinhad

participation. Over 50 resident's testified in favor of keeping the Mattawa Drop Box site open. The rate
increase took effect in March of 2021.
The quarterly report from March through June 2021 indicates a narrowprofit. The report also in an
increase in users. The Mattawa. Drop Box had 3 67 transactions, which was an increase of 29 customers
per month during this reporting period.
I recommend the Board make a motion to keep the Mattawa Drop Box open based on the public
testimony, new rates, and increase in usage.
