I was recently studying compensation reviews for my departments and had a troubling discovery.

We continually strugg t etain fairgrounds seasonal workers even though we have increased
the hourly rate to $ tf. per hour. I completely missed the fact that while we raised the seasonal
aid hourly rate in hopes of retaining or even attracting workers, I failed to (at the same time)
raise the On -Call hourly rate to at least the same, and after reflecting on it this weekend, maybe
even a bit more. Please consider the following,
The seasonal aid position comes and goes (if we are lucky they come) and is typically unskilled
labor needed to go and do the assigned task.
The On -Call position is expected to be reliable and professional in its role. Employees regularly
greet and direct the public.
On -Call employees do almost all of the tasks our full-time workers do and are often recruited
(because of their professional manner) to help in other departments such as your office, elections,
the treasurer's office and are ' often considered for any task when extra hands are needed.
Central Services is requesting the Boards approval to immediately increase the wage for our On -
Call workers to $16.00 per hour. Currently, they receive $13.69 per hour
