Re: Request to Proceed with Wheeler Road Facility Roof Wiring
Dear BOCC,
This year it was budgeted to replace the roof on the Grant County Facility for District Court and
WSU at 1525 -Wheeler Road in Moses Lake, Washington due to the roof being at end of life and
in poor condition. Part of the roofing project is extending the conduit and wiring to the units
because of the additional insulation that is part of the new roofing system. While reviewing this
phase of the project a couple of electrical code issues were identified. One was the conduit to all
the units have failed connectors which allows water to enter them. A second concern was the
lack of service outlets within 25 feet to service the units.
These NEC Code corrections and wiring alterations were put to out to bid, and Farmers Electric
had the low bid at $15,018.82. This cost has the tax included in it. Their bid would run new
feeder cable under the roof out of the weather, eliminate a trip hazard on the roof, and make it
easier to seal the cable penetration in the new roof. The bid also includes installation of 120v
receptacles on each unit for service which takes care of the other NEC issue.
It is my opinion that this work should be done, and I am asking the Grant County Board of
Commissioner's permission to proceed. The cost for this project, $15,018.82, would be paid
from the Wheeler Road Roof Replacement Project, 126.168.00.9112.594186210, which has a
remaining balance of $38,172.00.
