We still have one juvenile that is being charged as an adult (For murder 11t / assaultlst). On March 14, 2022, we got the Chief Moses Middle School student that took a gun to the school and had a list of 4 people that he was intending to shoot. The current charges for him are four counts of Attempted Assault 1St Degree with a firearm, Unlawful Possession of Firearm in the 2nd Degree and Possession of a Firearm on School Facilities. intake Tacking 2022, 2) Courts: On Monday March 14, 2022, Grant County Superior Court shared the Emergency Administrative Order No.15(21-03) advising that Face coverings are no longer required when physically appearing in court. OFFENDER/DIVERSION: All civil and criminal matters are still being held via WebEx, and we only have in person court hearings for Dispositions and Trials. After our last weekly meeting with the Juvenile Prosecutor, Caleb Nolta stated that he has been working on the backlog of referrals and he seems to think that a lot of those cases will be going to diversion. He stated that he currently has a system in place that if they referred a felony or a serious charge, he acts on it right away and let the other referrals for a later time review. ii. TRUANCY: We currently have 96 active petitions, 42 total stays, 54 stays filed this school year, 16 stays lifted and sent to court and 22 contempt of court filed. DEPENDENCY: The dependency unit is also doing regular docket hearings, via WebEx. Since my last update, we had our first Table of 10 since around 2 years ago (meeting with key players to discuss things that are working or not working with our process) Main concern is getting caught up with the backlog in cases. Some of the ideas for the court to consider as we work through the backlog were: • Expanding the existing weekly dependency dockets from the afternoon of just contested matters to all day dockets with no round table/ allowing orders to be entered on the day of the docket. • Set and announce at a readiness up to three trials (one month out for a given court date) that will go for a certain trial date. • start with the oldest of the trials that are ready to go (mix in dependency and term trials). • settlement conferences presided over by a judicial officer • For all new dependency fact findings set at shelter care a settlement conference (even though the actual trial will likely have to be outside the 75 day mark initially). By doing so may result in more trials resolving within the statutory guidelines. 3) Martin Hall: There has been no issues with transportation or communication. I will be attending the Martin Hall Board Meeting this next Thursday, March 24, 2022. 4) Administration: As a part of the Environmental Assessment Recommendations, the Juvenile Court & Youth Services Administration has been part of the following trainings: Addressing Personnel Challenges Through Effective Leadership Managing Conflict & Maintaining a Professional Workplace Environment Enhancing Workplace Climate I have also scheduled True Colors part 1 for all Juvenile staff on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 from 8:30am to 11am. 5) Needs of the Department i.
