The Bathroom project CSD2201fg to construct a bathroom and storage area while also
connecting the 4H, Commercial, and Agricultural buildings, and adding a fire suppression
system bid about 30% higher than expected.
Upon closer review with the architect MJ Neal, and with contractors around the region (and even
across the Country) the trend of bids being about 30% higher is not isolated to the northwest or
expected to change in the near term.
The Architects original estimate was $1,474,897.00. I expected the building to bid at around one
million dollars, but the responsive low bidder was (with sales tax) $1,608,110.00 Subtracting
30% would have placed the cost at $1,125,677.00 in line with my expectations.
Our options are to reject the bid and rebid the project although neither the architect nor I believe
we will receive a different result. Or perform a budget extension for the difference and move
forward with the project.
Central Services is requesting with this a letter a budget extension from REET 1 in the amount of
$608,110.00 to make up the difference between what was allocated and the actual cost. I have
checked with our treasurer, and he has stated that REET one does contain the funds to provide
for this extension.
