A group of citizens who live in the McConihe Area came to discuss and a business that has moved into
their area and parking large semi -trucks around their property. The zoning of the area is Rural
Residential 1. This issue should have been turned into Code Enforcement. Commissioner Stone was
going to look into this and get back to the group.

RE: The rural backyard.
Our neighborhood is changing rapidly into a truck stop and junkyard. We are seeking your
mediation.
Traditionally, the rural backyard only differed from the farm in the amount of acreage.
Typically, they both had vegetable gardens, animal housing, a place for the kids to play, a
clothes line, storage buildings and, an outhouse or two. They tolerated each other's way of life.
If they could afford it, they may have had some fences put up to offer privacy and hide the
clutter.
Today, changes have taken place. The farms have large pieces of equipment and bigger barns.
No more clotheslines and outhouses.
The rural homestead has become the place the clutter accumulates as the family grows. Grown
children "temporarily leave their animals and broken-down vehicles on the parents' property.
Typically, this all, works because we have backyards and that is where the "stuff" is stored. That
makes us happy. We don't appreciate seeing the mess in the front yards. It is easier to ignore
when the front is kept nice and the junk is in the backyard. We tolerate each others' stuff and
build fences for privacy when we can. Fences are always appreciated.
In our neighborhood we have a new problem, semi -trucks, broken down pieces of large
equipment, and junk being stored all over the place. When it is in the "backyard" and with
some order it is not so bad, especially when there is a fence. But in the front yard, no fences,
and or on open property it is an eyesore and diminishes the character of neighborhood.
The amount of trucks, large broken-down machinery and junk has increased dramatically in the
last few years. It has become too much to ignore. We would appreciate you help in addressing
this issue.
What can be done to ensure that each family can enjoy their property and use it to meet their
needs and yet be held accountable to some standard of use that enhances,, not diminishes the
character of our neighborhood?
We have heard that semi -trucks are commercial and can be parked by a driver on his property.
1. Does that apply to a fleet of trucks?
2. Does that apply to land that is not occupied by a resident?
3. Can large pieces of damaged equipment be brought out and dumped?
4. We do not want to see our neighborhood become a junk yard nor a truck stop.
Our number one concern is the trucks and broken down equipment., being stored
on open ground brought in the last two years.
We appreciate your consideration of this matter and appreciate your help in mediating this
problem.
