RESOLUTION NUMBER 95 -104 -CC
TO REQUEST COMPENSATION FROM THE
UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE
FOR LOST REVENUES TO KITTITAS COUNTY
DUE TO THE YAKIMA FIRING CENTER
LAND ACQUISITION
WHEREAS, Congress has approved and appropriated funds to expand the Yakima
Firing Center which is a subinstallation of the Fort Lewis Military Installation, U.S.
Department of Defense, Department of the Army; and
WHEREAS, the expansion of the Yakima Firing Center impacts Kittitas County, to
wit:
a. Loss of payment in Lieu of Taxes(PILT) from Bureau of Land Management
b. Loss of property taxes and revenue from State owned land
C. Loss of property taxes from private owned land
d. Interruption of public access to hunting/ recreational areas
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED, that the Board of County
Commissioners, after due consideration and in the best interest of the public, does
hereby request from the U.S. Department of Defense, Department of the Army, a one
time payment in the amount of $500,000.00 to mitigate the above lost revenues and
enjoyment of the lands which have been acquired in Kittitas County by the United States
Department of Defense.
