Box 37, C Street NW Ephrata, WA 98823 Re: Drinking Water Sampling Program I Area Grant County Commissioners VAY 17 2001 Dear Commissioners: At the monthly meeting of the Columbia Basin GWMA Executive Board held on April 26, 2001, discussion was held regarding need to reach and educate the general public and the "at risk" populations in the GWMA area. Last year GWMA approved expending funds to Ginger Wireman of WSU Cooperative Extension for a program to accomplish this goal. Ginger was to combine GWMA funds with other WSU funds to fund the program. We have since learned that Ginger Wireman will not be able to complete the program due to circumstances. No GWMA funds were expended or requested. Carol Miller from GWMA has proposed an alternative plan to accomplish many of the same goals. The purpose will be to provide public access to drinking water testing, to educate the General Public about nitrates in drinking water. and reach At Risk Populations. GWMA has a goal of protecting and educating the public, and this new program will help GWMA meet that goal. The "Drinking Water Sampling Program" was supported by the GWMA Executive Board as a replacement program for the Ginger Wireman program, and would utilize the funds originally allocated to that program. The total cost of the program would not exceed $18,000 in funding for one year. We are asking for a formal approval of this action from the Commissioners in the form of a Resolution. Please notify me as soon as that has been done. Feel free to contact Carol or myself if you have questions. Thank you for your help in this matter. Sincerely, Lynn F.
