Molinaro Administrator Federal Transit Administration U.S. Department of Transportation 1200 New Jersey Avenue, SE Washington, DC 20590 Re: Letter of Support —Federal Transit Administration Grants for the 5339(b) Bus &Bus Facilities Grant Program —Washington State Department of Transportation Dear Administrator Molinaro, We, the Grant County Board of Commissioners, we write today in support of Grant Transit Authority (GTA), and its Bus and Bus Facilities Program (5339) discretionary grant application submitted by the Washington State Department of Transportation's (WSDOT) to the Federal Transit Administration (FTA). GTA, a rural transportation provider in Grant County, seeks $2,310,320 in federal funding with a dedicated match of $577,580 in local funds for the purchase of two 30-foot clean -diesel buses and four low -floor gasoline minibuses to continue safe and reliable service for residents and visitors across the county. The heavy-duty buses scheduled for replacement have odometer readings over 725,000 miles. Both buses are 21 years old. These vehicles are frequently taken out of service for repairs, often resulting in multiple units being out of service simultaneously. The funding of four minibuses through this application will serve as a crucial step in providing continued service to the most rural areas of Grant County. Minibuses allow us to operate with greater efficiency over longer distances in rural areas. This investment helps communities in a rural, county -wide Public Transportation Benefit Area (PTBA) have access to transportation they otherwise would not have. Replacing these vehicles will enable GTA to maintain consistent service levels, minimize mechanical disruptions, and enhance safety, reliability, and operational efficiency. Kevin R. State of Good Repair (SGR) standards are established by WSDOT. Maintaining buses, and supporting infrastructure, in a state of good repair is not only safer for the traveling public, but also cost effective. Transit agencies that are able to maintain their capital assets in a state of good repair are able to contribute positively to the economy of the local community while providing a safe and environmentally conscious transportation option for the public. Ensuring that transit agencies have the capital assets they need supports many of Washington State's transportation system policy goals: mobility, economic vitality, stewardship, p environment, and safety.
