Re: Request to use capital funds for Sound System and lighting projects at Rodeo arena
We have two matching fund grant projects happening in the Rodeo arena area this year. The first is the
Rodeo arena sound system, This project was bid at close to $220,000 with the County matching the
$110,000 grant. In further review of the project the speaker arrays are too heavy for the existing light
poles. Our proposal is to place two additional poles, on the announcers stand side, that will hold the
speaker arrays. Musco lighting is already doing an installation of lights along the East side of the
grounds. Adding the two poles will save us mobilization costs if done at the same time. The cost quote
from Musco, for the two additional poles, is $49.,600.
The second project is the Lighting project on the East side of the grounds. This project is being done
through KCDA with Musco being the contractor. The project has a match of $225,000 with a project cost
of approximately $433,284. This project will require a new transformer to be placed. We do not have a
cost for the new transformer at this time.
The third project has been discussed, by the rodeo association, for at least 10 years. We want to move
forward with the new announcers stand for the Rodeo arena as the existing stand is not meeting the
needs of the facility. Our initial bid to replace it, from Southern Bleacher., is $645,000 and it may still not
meet our needs.
My request is to fund the development of a set of plans for the new announcers stand that will meet all
county code requirements as well as the requirements of the Rodeo Association. I would expect a set of
plans to cost in the $10,000 to $20,000 range. These plans could then be the basis for a capital project,
put out to bid, in 2027.
I currently have $240,000 budgeted, under capital, for rodeo arena and grounds improvements.
I am requesting that we fund the two light poles at approximately $49,600 for the sound system. Fund
the cost of a new transformer to be installed for the east lighting project and to request bids for the
design of a new announcers stand that passes all code requirements, permitting requirements and our
insurance requirements. All of which will be less than the $240,000 already budgeted for rodeo arena
projects.
