Subject: Letter of Support for Grant County —Periodic Update Grant
Dear Grant Review Committee,
On behalf of Grant County, we are writing to express our enthusiastic support for the
Periodic Update Grant. As a fully planning county under the Washington State Growth
Management Act, Grant County is committed to maintaining and updating our
comprehensive plan and development regulations to ensure responsible growth,
sustainability, and the well-being of our residents.
Funding support from the Washington State Department of Commerce will enable
Grant County to advance our vision and goals for managed development, protect our critical
areas, ensure housing and economic vitality, and broaden public participation in planning
processes. These efforts are essential in aligning with state requirements and in meeting the
evolving needs of our community.
We appreciate the Department's ongoing partnership and support for local
governments working to uphold the principles of good government and effective land use
planning. We are confident that this grant will greatly assist Grant County in fulfilling its
obligations and achieving positive outcomes for our citizens.
The work plan presented aligns closely with the vision and goals of Grant County by
outlining a comprehensive and sequential process for updating and enhancing the county's
planning framework. The plan advances land capacity, land use, and housing analyses, which
directly support Grant County's goals for managed growth, sustainable development, and
community well-being. By funding detailed studies and memos on critical areas, energy,

agricultural lands, and housing, the plan supports informed decision -making that promotes
environmental stewardship and economic vitality.
The proposed Climate Resiliency Element of the Grant County Comprehensive Plan,
prepared in accordance with the requirements of HB 1181, is nearing completion.
Preliminary findings demonstrate that Grant County possesses a strong foundation for
climate resilience; however, modernization and improved coordination of policies are
necessary to ensure adequate protection of vulnerable populations, to secure sustainable
water and energy resources, and to foster equitable economic growth. Continued funding
support from the Washington State Department of Commerce will be critical to finalizing
this work and integrating the Climate Resiliency Element into the Grant County
Comprehensive Plan.
The Grant County Board of Commissioners hereby authorize the county to propose
the attached scope of work and budget request for the Periodic Update Grant to facilitate the
county in the periodic review and update, if necessary, of our comprehensive plan, critical
areas ordinance, and development regulations as necessary to meet the requirements of the
Growth Management Act, in accordance with RCW 3 6.70A. 13 0(5). We agree to pursue
adoption of the ordinances and/or plans that result from the grant by June 30, 2027.
Sincerely,
Ro s, ellair
