This targeted and important infrastructure project is essential to transforming an unimproved dirt and gravel roadway into a fully developed street with asphalt paving, sidewalks, and utility infrastructure creating economic opportunities and improving quality of life for the Mattawa community. Mattawa, a rural community facing significant socioeconomic challenges, has 92% of its students qualifying for free and reduced -price lunch. The Steven Street Upgrade Project is a crucial infrastructure initiative designed to enhance safety, stimulate business growth, and support residential expansion in Mattawa. This project will deliver key infrastructure enhancements including durable asphalt paving, pedestrian safety improvements, modern utility installations, and street lighting to unlock Steven Street's full potential as a critical commercial corridor. Given its direct connection to Road 24 SW, Mattawa's main thoroughfare, upgrading Steven Street will attract new commercial development and support residential development, and improve transportation access for residents and visitors. Furthermore, this investment aligns with federal and regional priorities that promote sustainable growth, economic diversification, and infrastructure resilience. Kevin R.
