I received a B.S. in Animal Sciences and M.S. specializing in ruminant nutrition from Washington State University. Sarah's primary responsibility is to provide educational outreach for beef cattle, sheep and hogs producers from farm to harvest in Central Washington. Sarah's outreach programs are specialized around animal care and handling and food animal quality assurance at the farm/ranch level, at animal feeding operations and at harvest facilities. Programs are also to promote sustainable and profitable production of food animals for livestock producers of all sizes and natural resource management utilized to support the production of livestock and agriculture products need for livestock production. What particular background, training, experience, special skills, knowledge, or aptitude which you feel would be an asset to the board(s) for which you are applying. Experience:* I have served on a numerous boards at the local, state and national level concerning food animal production. I have served as a board member and in leadership roles. In addition, I in my capacity with WSU I serve as an advisor on the Grant County Cattlemen's Assoc Board, Columbia Basin Sheep Produces Association, and the Washington Pork Producers Association. What other board experiences, volunteer activities, or special interests do you currently have? Interest:* I have an interest in serving on the SWAG, as disposal of mortality and offal greatly impacts our local livestock producers and local meat processors from both an availability standpoint and biosecurity for both livestock and humans. I have also worked with other WSU colleagues on composting and trying to mitigate the amount of animal/food waste going to the landfill through education practices of by-product feeding and composting. Why are you interested in serving? Limitations:* I do have other meeting requirements that could conflict with times, but overall, I should be available for either day or night meetings. What limitations, if any, would be placed on the time you would be available for meetings and other activities? Are you available for daytime meetings. YES N 0 Issues and Concerns:* f—Are you available for evening meetings:* YES NO Two of the greatest concerns I see 1) Grant County's growth in both industry and population which requires greater need for solid waste, which requires growth issues; 2) regulations at the state and federal level over solid waste management and impact on local disposal of waste. These are both going to take thoughtful considerations of the regulations implementation actions and challenges; potential solution; and education of both decision makers of the solid waste department and consumers utilizing its service.
