D2: D3: 4/23/24 WITHDRAWN: Me July 30, 2024 To Whom it May Concern, GRANT COUNTY OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS P O Box 37 EPHRATA WA 9B823 (509) 754-2011 On behalf of the Grant County Commissioners, it is our pleasure to write this letter of support for a project that deserves your full consideration of support. The population in Grant County is older than average with one in every four residents being 65 years of age or older. Currently, the only assisted living or memory care facilities with available beds are in Spokane, more than 80 miles away from Grand Coulee and the surrounding areas. With these population numbers and no viable assisted living or memory care options close b p Y, established community members are not able to age in place and are forced to leave the lives they love. For those who do not want to leave, these seniors are staying in their homes to care for themselves longer than they are truly able, resulting in poor health outcomes. In addition to a lack of senior services and housing, we also experience the challenge that this rural and remote Federal -based community lacks a reasonable tax base and private buildable land for additional housing due primarily to extensive Federal and Tribal land holdings. Center Senior Living has developed a strategic plan to address the lack of senior housing and services in the area by adaptively reusing an existing building that was once an elementary school to a 50-70 unit, 60-80 bed, assisted living and memory care facility, and to sustain this operation. Grant County shares with you your concern for affordable housing, housing shortages, as well as your priority for caring for older Americans in our communities, including a multitude of Federal retirees who committed their careers to serving Grand Coulee Dam. Providing adequate uate safe and affordable housing with a continuum of care will allow seniors to move into a safe secure living environment, while staying close to their families, doctors and support systems. pp Y Danny E. Stone Rob Jones Cindy Carter District 1 District 2 District 3 "To MEET CURRENT AND FUTURE NEEDSy SERVING TOGETHER WITH PUBLIC AND PRIVATE ENTITIES? WHILE FOSTERING A RESPECTFUL AND SUCCESSFUL WORK ENVIRONMENT." We are looking for ways in which the County can support this project. Surely, the investment of public funding, federal or state, would serve as an inducement to leverage local funding, and maximize not only the financial potential, but the philanthropic response. Please join the Grant County Commissioners in supporting Center Senior p Living's Ian to improve the quality of life for our seniors and the families who care for them. Thank you in advance for your thoughtful consideration. Sincerely, BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS Cindy Car r, Chair Danny.Stone, Vice -Chair Ro e , ember M CC: Patti Westby
