It would be incredibly beneficial to the city if the water main were extended along the route of the sewer installation we are performing to Dodson Rd., where it would intercept another "city water" pressure zone. Creating a loop in the water main greatly enhances the city's infrastructure and its ability to provide water to areas yet to be developed. We asked our contractors to provide a price to do this work last year as the City stated they would like to pay for It if they could. We did provide the city with a price of $680,000 (not including tax and markups). Since then, we have continued to progress, and after putting drawings for all our work into the city for a permit, an ongoing discussion regarding the water occurred. The city's engineers said they would need a vault and a particular valve to connect two pressure zones. Selland Construction was able to update its price for the work and include the vault and valve. This new cost came in lower than the original. This work is all under contract with us as we have performed all regulatory processes and can give Selland a change order and do the work. By doing this, the city can reimburse us for the costs, and the city would not have to find a contractor after the work has been completed and start over, which would cost much more. This would be an extension of our work, as we are already digging into the same easement and from the same points as our work. This is an excellent opportunity to show the efficient use of dollars, our great partnership with the city, and our ability to work together. This helps the Grant County project by providing a better water system to attach to, and the city can enhance its infrastructure. The city included the original $680,000 in their 2024 budget, and they would like to have the work done. If the Board approves, we will provide a change order to Selland to do the work. Selland Construction will still need to provide a detailed breakdown of the work, approved through our GCCM process as per the RCWs that govern this work. The actual cost may be slightly up or down once the detailed cost is provided. The city council also needs to approve this work.
