Based on the above observations and concerns, both the Sheriff s Office and Public Works have
worked together to evaluate and determine an appropriate replacement schedule for Sheriff's
Office Vehicles. Together we propose the following vehicle classifications and replacement
schedule:
Admin[Detective vehicles (light duty
ddyipg)
130,000 or gyrs or when replaemnent value has been collected
Pursuit vehicles (patrol vehicle)
100,000 or 4yrs or when replacement value has been collected
I
Special purpose vehicles (marinelorv)
100,000 or 4yrs or when replacement value has been collected
Public Works believes there will be a cost savings because the vehicles would receive less
general maintenance (oil changes, tires, brakes) over the life of the vehicles and once the
vehicles get to a mileage threshold wear engines and transmissions start to fail, the vehicles will
have already be rotated out of our fleet, thus saving on even more expensive and specialized
types of maintenance,
Public Works did a study and is estimating a savings of approximately $10,000.00 per vehicle by
switching from a 5 year replacement to a four year replacement,
With the approval of BOCC, the Sberiff's Office and Public Works would implement this
change immediately and use the new replacement schedule for 2024 vehicles,
Respectfully,

Subject: RE: 2025 Sheriff's Office Replacement Schedule - Proposal
There is a great benefit in moving in this direction. Vehicles with lower miles have a greater return when they are sold.
We maintain awarranty for most of the life of the vehicle up to 701000 miles in some cases. Pursuit rated vehicles after
100.,000 miles may encounter more frequent repairs and failures during response.
This will increase the annual contribution for replacement of vehicles replaced at 100,000 miles. This will require an
annual increase in the current expense budget to cover replacement lacement costs.
Respectfully,
..Sam Castro C.P.O.

Here is a draft proposal for ER&.E sheriff's office vehicle replacement. This proposal and language was discussed at an
earlier meeting at Public Works, where we discussed working together to lower the replacement schedule.
Please review and I welcome all suggestions.
Please share with anyone you feel should be included.
I look forward to everyone's feed back.

Loc and I discussed the issue of changing from 5 years 1301000 to 4 year 100,000 miles for your pursuit
vehicles. We changed the control card on brand new vehicle 7173 from 5 years to 4 to see if there would be a
savings,, that recalculation showed a replacement savings of $2.,238.28. See attachment. If you add that to the
estimates on the cost savings that Loc calculated earlier. I think its reasonable to estimate a savings of
approximately $10.,000.00 per vehicle.
Loc If I did not capture what discussed accurately please clarify,
Thanks,
