Re: Support of Town of Coulee City Funding Request for new Community Library
To whom it may concern:
The Grant County Board of Commissioners write in support of the Town of Coulee City's
request for approximately $1,500,000.00 in funding for a new Community Library.
The existing Library in Coulee City, located on the first floor of a two-story building constructed
in 1909, is too small and understaffed to support the area's current needs. In addition, the
building that houses the library is not accessible to those with disabilities.
It is envisioned that the new Community Library will offer a larger selection of books and useful
texts; will be handicap accessible by implementing ramps, automatic door openers, and ADA -
compliant bathrooms; and will provide an increased availability of technologies and software for
educational and professional development purposes. The new Community Library will also
enhance the staffing and resources to connect with Spanish-speaking populations and people in
crisis.
It is our understanding that the Town of Coulee City has initiated a funding campaign and is
seeking funding from the State Department of Commerce's Library Capital Improvement
Program, a legislative appropriation from the State's 2021 Capital Budget, and various private
funding sources. Furthermore, the Town has pledged to provide $10,000 in matching funds
towards the completion of the new Community Library.
Also, without the new Community Library serving the greater Coulee City community, it will be
much more difficult for the Town to be able to attract new businesses and industries to the area,
which in turn would spur economic development and diversity within the Coulee City region.
In conclusion and for the reasons above, we would urge your support of the Town of Coulee
City's funding request for $1,500,000 for the proposed new Community Library.
