POSITION SUMMARY
Perform skilled installation, maintenance, repair and construction of assigned equipment and buildings
to assure their proper and safe functioning.
Positions of the class perform the full, standard level of skilled craft work in such skill areas as
carpentry, electrical work, plumbing, electronics, locksmith, and electrical control devices.
Positions of the class are not required to be licensed although licensure or certification in appropriate
skills is desired.
Positions of the class are distinguished from Maintenance IV positions in that those positions require
their incumbents to function at an advanced or expert level of competence in craft work including highly
specialized fields such as Electrical, Plumbing or Carpentry work at a Journeyman level.
This position will oversee subordinates for certain assigned projects and is expected to give guidance
when appropriate. Position will occasionally supervise inmate workers.
Advancement from Maintenance III to Maintenance IV is not automatic and is limited to established
need before the Board of County Commissioners for appointment to the Maintenance IV class.
This position is differentiated from the Maintenance II positions as it requires the ability to recognize
the criticality of and prioritize work orders to keep operations running efficiently. Needs minimal
direction on keeping on task and completing assigned work. Will have to organize and plan tasks to be
efficient as possible by planning trips, parts and tools to maximize work effort. Must regularly
demonstrate some advanced knowledge in a particular trade and will be expected to work to a greater
degree without supervision.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILMES
The following examples of duties and accountabilities illustrate the general range of tasks assigned to
the position but are not intended to define the limits of required duties. Other essential duties may be
assigned consistent with the general scope of the position. Employee must comply with all County and
department policies, procedures, WAC's, or other regulatory bodies.
1. Buildingand nd Equipment Maintenance: This includes building maintenance tasks such as repairing
doors, windows, lighting fixtures, locks, light switches as well as performing painting and the
refinishing of surfaces; preventive maintenance and repairs to a wide variety of electrical,
mechanical, HVAC, plumbing and other equipment; tasks may include replacement of electric
motors, switches, electronic controls, electric panel boxes and repair or replacement of plumbing
and mechanical equipment parts. Such repairs and maintenance involve the use of diagnostic
equipment such as multimeters as well as the use of blueprints and circuit schematics.
2. Equipment Installation: Tasks include installing and testing of such equipment as electrical,
plumbing, irrigation and HVAC fixtures and devices. These may include electric motors, pumps,
electric and electronic controls, chilling and heating equipment, thermostats, and plumbing and
lighting fixtures.
3. Building Remodeling and Construction: This accountability includes: constructing and moving
walls, room dividers and other structures that involve framing, drywall, structural support, painting
and finishing; remodeling offices and other rooms that involve removing and replacing flooring,
carpeting and other floor coverings; replacing doors, windows and other buildin fixtures; and

constructing entire buildings including foundations, framing, roofing, interior finishing and
installation of heating, plumbing and electrical equipment.
4. Grounds and Building Care: Tasks include lawn maintenance including chemical applications, tree
pruning and care, sprinkler maintenance, responding to emergency repairs, such as unclogging
plumbing, repairing broken underground water lines, cleaning up after animals, use of tractors,
loaders, arena grooming equipment, public address systems at assigned buildings and maintaining
indoor and outdoor lighting fixtures, including replacement of ballasts. Repair of barns and
livestock pens is a regular occurrence. Setting up temporary stalls and pens for horses and livestock.
The primary location for this position is at the Grant County Fairgrounds although you may be asked
to work at the other sites and facilities intermittently.
EDUCATION EXPERIENCE and LICENSING
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty

Required
• High School Diploma or GED
• Minimum three years of demonstrated experience in building construction, building
maintenance and repair, electrical, plumbing, heating, chilling, and electronic equipment,
framing, concrete laying and finishing, roofing and installation of windows, doors and other
appurtenances; maintenance and repair of complex machinery and equipment and buildings.
• Valid Driver's License: With proof of automobile insurance
• Background Check: Must have an acceptable background record
• Driving Abstract: Must have an acceptable driving record.
Preferred
• Coursework in advanced skill trades
• Previous public building maintenance experience
PHYSICAL ABILITIES WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in a variety of buildings and locations where incumbents are exposed to the use of
tools, equipment and environments with the potential for causing injury. These exposures are mitigated
by proper use of such devices as eye and hearing protection and protective shoes. Includes work during
the week, on weekends, sometimes during the evening as support for events is required. Work is both
indoor and out of doors at any time during the year in heat, wind, snow, or rain. Work with the public
and supporting events is a regular part of the duties in this position.
The physical abilities described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to
successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the
employee is regularly required to walk, sit, write, hear, speak and lift up to 5o lbs. of unequal weight.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision, peripheral, and depth
perception. This job requires employees to stand and/or sit for 8+ hours per day, 5 days per week.
