If you could forward this on to the commissioners, that would be much appreciated.
After much discussion with the other Pest Board members, we feel that we are not ready to take on the
challenge of hiring a full time position Pest Consultant. The board was under the assumption that the county
would hire the consultant and the Pest Board would manage his activities and duties to ensure the job was being
fulfilled with the best intentions of the board and the county. The Pest Board is a voluntary board and after
discussions with a few departments within the county, the time and effort needed to create a new position and
generate funds (through parcel and/or acreage assessments) would be too much to ask from a voluntary board
member.
At this time, the pest board would like to consider hiring back a part time consultant to focus on maintaining an
environment productive to the commercial production of fruit in Grant County. This would mean we would not
focus on backyard trees, but be in contact with the extension office to help facilitate literature and education of
homeowners in hopes they see the economic damage they potentially possess. The board would continue to
work with orchards that have been abandoned or have been neglected to the point of economic damage to
surrounding neighbors. This has always been the goal and focus for the Pest Board.
The board has spoken with Jody Kane and she is willing to consider coming back to work as a Part Time Pest
Board Consultant. This would, in essence, have the Pest Board return to the way it operated in past years.
Thank you for all your time and help in this matter. Please feel free to contact myself with any questions you
may have.
