HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 19-037-CCBOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS Grant County, Washington RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF RESOLUTION No. 19- 0 3 -CC THE SECOND AMENDMENT AND ARTICLE 1 SEC. 24 WHEREAS, the right of the people to keep and bear arms is guaranteed under the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution, and the right of the individual citizen to bear arms in defense of himself and the state shall not be infringed under Article I Section 24 of the Washington State Constitution; and WHEREAS, the right of the people to keep and bear arms for defense of life, liberty and property is regarded as an inalienable right by the people of Grant County, Washington; and WHEREAS, the Grant County Board of Commissioners, being elected to represent the people of Grant County and being duly sworn to uphold the United States Constitution, the Constitution of the State of Washington, and the laws passed there under; and WHEREAS, the people of Grant County derive economic benefit from all safe forms of firearm recreation, hunting and shooting conducted in Grant County using all types of firearms allowable under the United States Constitution, the Constitution of the State of Washington, and the laws passed there under; and WHEREAS, I-1639 failed in Grant County by a 68% to 32% margin; and WHEREAS, The Grant County Board of Commissioners, being elected to represent the people of Grant County, and being duly sworn to uphold and defend the constitutions of the United States and the State of Washington, including rights to keep and bear arms. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED THAT the Grant County Board of Commissioners, support narrow interpretation of laws that restrict the right to keep and bear arms, and oppose legislative encroachment on that right.
