Re: Support for the City of Rock Island's Request for SR -28 Highway Expansion
Dear Senator Murray:
The Grant County Board of County Commissioners write in support for the City of Rock Island's
application and submittal of their Infrastructure Priority Solicitation Form to Senator Murray's office.
The Grant County Board of Commissioners believes the request for prioritization highlights a great
opportunity for our area as there is exponential growth and development occurring within the affected
counties of Grant, Douglas and Chelan here in Central Washington.
Specifically, this multi -modal network of projects will yield improved safety, system reliability, and
congestion relief for these areas. State Route 28 is vital to the citizens and businesses of Douglas, Grant,
and Chelan Counties. This route is a primary agriculture and consumer goods transport avenue connecting
the Wenatchee/East Wenatchee metropolitan area to the 1-90 Interstate highway. The 4 -lane expansion of
this highway from East Wenatchee to 1-90 would provide much needed safety and highly improve the
flow of vital commerce.
Our county is rural, but we have the benefit of hosting the passage of Interstate 90 through our borders.
Our neighbors to the north do not have the benefit of an interstate and this project provides opportunities
to highlight the ability of a region to come together and use federal, state and local funding in an efficient
and effective manner. The region's future highly depends on the expansion of our local Highway network
systems. Thank you for your time and prioritization consideration.
Sincerely,
11 OF RANT OUNTY COMMISSIONERS
