This project will eliminate the Portage Avenue Lift Station, thereby eliminating the risk of spills, overflows, and potential health hazards. In addition, the project will reduce the City's operations and maintenance costs associated with the lift station. This funding of this project can reduce or eliminate serious risks to health and safety for both humans and the environment, as well as the additional unplanned costs to the city for responding to and cleaning up from these incidents. The City of Mattawa would greatly benefit from this financial assistance. The city serves a high minority population with over 90% of the population being Hispanic or Latino. The community is one in need as 70.65% of the households are low -to -moderate -income (LMI). Having the ability to provide reliable wastewater infrastructure has the potential to create jobs and increase economic development including residential and commercial developments. It will help mitigate potential health hazards to our community and have the potential to support additional growth. In conclusion, we would urge your support of the City of Mattawa's request for funding for the Sewer Collection System Improvements and Lift Station Elimination Project. We support the city in this application to make the City a better place to live and to help protect our surrounding environment.
