Grant County, Washington
RESOLUTION OPPOSING RESOLUTION No. 21- 091 -CC
INFRINGEMENTS
ON THE INALIENABLE RIGHTS
OF THE PEOPLE AND
TO REAFFIRM SUPPORT FOR
THE U.S. AND WASHINGTON
STATE CONSTITUTIONS
WHEREAS, members of the Grant County Board Of County Commissioners, as the
County legislative body, being elected to represent the people of Grant County, are duly sworn
by their oath of office to "support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution and
laws of the State of Washington;" and
WHEREAS, the Grant County Board of County Commissioners is determined to protect
the rights provided to its citizens under the United States Constitution as well as the Constitution
of the State of Washington; and
WHEREAS, such protections will extend to rights specifically enumerated in those
documents, including, but not limited to, rights to freedom of expression, speech, association,
religion, press and petition, the right to keep and bear arms, the right to protection of person and
property from government overreach and the right not to be deprived of life, liberty, or property
without due process of law; and
WHEREAS, such protections will also extend to all other rights not enumerated in the
aforementioned documents, but which exist alongside the same as inalienable, basic,
fundamental rights that are so deeply rooted in our society and are eloquently stated in our
Declaration of Independence that they are deserving of protection from governmental
infringement and are thus protected by the Ninth Amendment, including, but not limited to, the
right to equality, liberty and the pursuit of livelihood and happiness; and
WHEREAS, citizens have asked for and deserve elected officials committed to support
and defend those documents as originally intended and, as we continue our call to build "a more
perfect union," deserving of elected officials who fully support the God-given rights enumerated
in our Declaration of Independence which Martin Luther King, Jr. called "a promissory note to
which every American was to fall heir;" and

WHEREAS, the Grant County Board of County Commissioners stands and will continue
to stand in strong opposition to any law that would unconstitutionally restrict, or infringe upon,
the above recognized rights.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Grant County Board of County
Commissioners hereby reaffirm our commitment to support and respect the Constitution of the
United States and the Constitution and laws of the State of Washington and to serve our citizens
by working to economically provide, alongside other public and private entities, services
essential to meet the current and future needs of those citizens; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that it is the goal of this Board of County
Commissioners to establish an environment in which the citizens of Grant County can pursue
life, liberty, and happiness unencumbered by excessive and oppressive governmental mandates
and intrusions into their day-to-day lives by upholding the freedoms enshrined in the
Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Washington. The Board of
County Commissioners recognizes that governments in the United States of America — at all
levels — are to be restrained and limited and that the power of government resides in the people.
The Grant County Board of County Commissioners accepts with humility and gratitude the
reality that they serve at the consent of the governed and at the will of the people. The Board of
County Commissioners will encourage local solutions and creative approaches to the problems
our community's encounter. The Board of County Commissioners believes it should be a voice
for the citizens of this County when governments at state and federal levels show a tendency to
advance into territory not their own and consume, rather than secure, the liberties endowed to the
people by our Creator and our Federal and State Constitutions. The County's guide and standard
will be the Constitution of the United States and the Founding Documents upon which our
Nation, our State, and the local communities of Grant County are built; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Grant County Board of County
Commissioners hereby expresses its intent to uphold all such rights of the citizens of Grant
County as well as its intent that public funds, resources, employees, buildings or offices not be
used to restrict such rights or to aid or assist in the enforcement of any restriction of the rights
granted under the U. S. Constitution or the Constitution of the State of Washington (such
constitutionality to be determined by the Courts); and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Grant County Board of County
Commissioners recognizes that government must be limited and that the people must be free
from unnecessary and arbitrary governmental overreach and intrusions; and
