Grant County Commissioners
P.O. Box 37
Ephrata, WA 98823
Dear Commissioners,
The Care and Share Food Bank would like to express our appreciation to the Grand Coulee Dam
American Legion Post 157. Last year we had 3,789 volunteer hours to serve 83,534 lbs of food
to 1,957 families and 3,436 people in our community. The Legionnaires account for over half of
our volunteers both during our regular Friday distribution and to unload monthly deliveries. The
Food Bank was originally supported primarily by the area churches but as church membership
has declined and membership age has risen, the American Legion has picked up the slack to
make sure that we can continue to support those in need. We would be struggling without
them.
The American Legion is an important part of our community in this and many other ways. They
encourage sobriety. They rely primarily on donations to their yard sales and otherwise to
continue to do the work that they are doing in our community. Therefore, the past 2 years of
COVID restriction have been particularly difficult for them but they have continued to support
us and other community efforts.
Respectfully,
Board of directors
