Re: Moses Lake Open Doors Sleep Center
Dear Senator Murray:
GRANT COUNTY
OFFICE OF THE
BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
P 0 Box 37
EPHRATA WA 9Ba23
(509) 754-2011
We are writing in support of the City of Moses Lake's plan to relocate,, provide permanent
infrastructure, and operate the Open Doors Sleep Center.
The City has been working diligently to address the ever-growing homelessness situation in
Grant County and has recognized the need for enhanced services and facilities for the homeless
population. In December 2020, the City began operating the Sleep Center, which gives the
homeless community a place to sleep at night in a secure and stable environment. This facility
also provides mental health and substance use counseling services, affordable housing
resources, employment opportunities, hygiene facilities, food, clothing, and referrals to other
essential services. Grant County has helped fund the Sleep Center through COVID relief grant
dollars, which are limited. While the source of these funds will end, the Sleep Center will
continue to operate to meet the housing needs of Grant County's homeless.
Providing a permanent location for the Sleep Center, while incorporating access to essential
resources and services, is an important next step to finding a solution to Grant County's
homelessness crisis. This project is in line with and achieves objectives identified in the Grant
County Plan to End Homelessness. We ask that you support the City's efforts to build this
facility as it is critical to our vulnerable homeless population.
Sincerely,
BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
