2)Intakes: Today's Daily Population Report: We currently have 5 juveniles in detention. We still have one
juvenile that is being charged as an adult (For murder 1St / assaultlst). The other juvenile for murder
1St/assaultlst with juvenile jurisdiction will be having disposition tomorrow Wednesday, February 23, 2022.
The other 3 intakes are one for a probation violation, one for assault 4 dv and one for assault2nd.
Offender
3) Courts:
L OFFENDER/DIVERSION: All civil and criminal matters are still being held via WebEx, and we only
have in person court hearings for Dispositions and Trials.
I had a meeting with Kevin McCrae to discuss the referrals backlog. We currently have cases that
were referred to our offender unit about a year ago and no charging decision has been made. He
stated that they have been short staffed for quite some time; and he will make sure that our
prosecutor will start working on some of those referrals. Kevin also stated that he will make
himself available for some of the weekly meetings.
ii. TRUANCY: We currently have 95 active petitions, 36 total stays, 39 stays filed this school year, 11
stays lifted and sent to court and 16 contempt of court filed.
DEPENDENCY: The dependency unit is also doing regular docket hearings, via WebEx.
Since COVID started and due to the Attorney General's office still operating remotely, they still
have a backlog in cases. Since this was brought to the court's attention recently, the court has
been proactive scheduling dependency trials and hearings on different dates, so they can begin
hearing some of these cases.
4) Martin Hall: There has been no issues with transportation or communication. I will be attending the Martin
Hall Board Meeting this next Thursday, February 24, 2022.
5) Administration:
• 1 met with Decorah on January 311t to go over the Environmental Assessment results. I also met with
Decorah and my Juvenile Service Manager on February 8th, to discuss a plan of action and trainings
needed for management and Department wise, that I will be bringing to our department.
• In the month of January, we had a safety incident report. One employee fell in the Moses Lake parking
due to icy weather conditions resulting on her going to the doctor to check her back. I followed up
with Human Resources to make sure we complete all necessary documentation.
6) Needs of the Department
i. I have been meeting with Human Resources and the Association trying to change the Probation
Counselor's job description. The Intensive Supervision Counselor and GAL Volunteer Coordinator
changes were approved. Next meeting will be postponed until next month.
ii. Crystal Burns approached me last month with a request. The Superior court needed office space for 2
probation officers that will be running the drug court program. After looking at the back offices we were
able to accommodate her request, and the 2 new Superior Court staff member will be in the Juvenile
building starting next month. Maintenance was able to get those offices painted and get them ready for
them.
iii. I will be on Vacation from March 28 through April 11, 2022.
