Letter of Interest for Grant County Prosecuting Attorney
Kevin J. McCrae
Grant County Republican Party
gcrpchairman@gmail.com
Dear Mr. Chairman,
I am writing this letter to express my interest in the position of Grant County Prosecuting
Attorney. As a conservative I believe in the Constitutions of the United States and the State of
Washington. I have spent my entire career sworn to uphold one or both. I am fiscally conservative,
conscious of the taxpayer's dollar and concerned about the return on investment we make in our criminal
justice system. That being said, the most important job of a prosecutor is the safety of the community.
As a criminal prosecutor I have prosecuted more than 40 jury trials, including some of the most
heinous and complex cases, such as multiple defendant aggravated murder and three strike cases. I was
the first gang prosecutor in the County. I also have led the office's appellate efforts for the past eight
years, handling over 50 appeals in the Court of Appeals and Washington State Supreme Court. In my
capacity as an appellate attorney I have been involved in legal policy developments as the law evolves in
Washington State.
Another job of the Prosecuting Attorney is as the legal advisor to the County and its leadership. I
have been the Chief Civil Deputy Prosecutor for the last three years. I have worked diligently to provide
excellent legal services to the County. In this capacity I have advised County officials on numerous
projects and problems, and developed an appreciation for the numerous areas of operations of the County.
Finally, and perhaps most importantly, the Prosecuting Attorney leads a staff of approximately
thirty attorneys and support staff to accomplish the missions of the office. I am familiar with training and
leading groups and individuals to accomplish a larger mission. As a Naval Officer I had extensive
training in leadership and management. I led a division of 25 sailors and was assistant department head
for a 125 person department.I look forward to speaking with you. As an attorney I have been a leader in
the office, frequently consulted on legal issues and tasks.
I believe my experience in all aspects of the Prosecutor's Office's operations, in addition to my
leadership experience, makes me the best candidate to lead the office.
Respectfully
3Ceoim a Tme*ae
