IT IS ESTIMATED THAT IT WOULD COST APPROXIMATELY $1,000 FOR THE TWO PHONES FOR THE FIRST YEAR. THIS SHOULD DECREASE DUE TO THE INITIAL COST OF THE PHONES. IT HAS BEEN REQUESTED BY THE DESERTAIRE CITIZEN PATROL FOR THE USE OF THESE TWO CELL PHONES FOR OFFICIAL LAW ENFORCEMENT DUTIES. WE HAVE CHECKED WITH THE STATE AUDITOR AND FOUND THAT THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE CAN OBTAIN THE CELL PHONES AT STATE BID AND THEY WILL BE THE PROPERTY OF THE GRANT COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE AND USED BY THE CITIZEN PATROL. WE WILL MONITOR THEIR ACTIVITIES VERY CAREFULLY AND THERE WILL BE WRITTEN PROCEDURES REGARDING USE OF THE CELL PHONES. COMMISSIONERS HELEN FANCHER AND TIM SNEAD ARE BOTH AWARE OF THE PROBLEM OF ISOLATION AND NEED FOR BETTER COMMUNICATION TO LAW ENFORCEMENT IN THAT AREA. PLEASE CONTACT ME PRIOR TO APRIL 30, 1996 IN REFERENCE TO THIS MATTER. I DO NOT HAVE MONIES IN THE CURRENT SHERIFF'S BUDGET FOR THESE EXPENDITURES. PLEASE ADVISt IF YOU ARE WILLING TO FINANCE THIS ENDEAVOR IN 1996. $IN.CER Y, WILLIAM A.
