AN ORDINANCE AMENDING
CHAPTER 2.56 OF THE GRANT COUNTY CODE
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners adopted Grant County Resolution No. 109809
(1959) and Grant County Resolution No. 109944 (1959) for the purpose of creating a Civil
Service Commission for sheriffs employees; appointing three members to such Civil Service
Commission; and, incorporating chapter 2.56 of the Grant County Code ("GCC"), the same
commonly referred to and cited as "Sheriff's Employees — Civil Service."; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to RCW 41.14.030(2), the county may, by ordinance, increase the number
of members serving on the Civil Service Commission from three to five members, with such
additional members being appointed by the Board of County Commissioners; and
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners have determined that it is in the best interests
of the county to amend chapter 2.56 GCC and increase the number of members serving on the
Civil Service Commission from three to five members; and
WHEREAS, appointment of the two additional members to the Civil Service Commission shall
be consistent with the provisions of RCW 41.14.030; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to RCW 41.14.030(2), the terms of the three commissioners presently
serving on the Civil Service Commission shall not affected; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to RCW 41.14.030(2), the initial term of office for the two additional
members shall be six years.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED:
Section 1. Chapter 2.56 GCC adopted by Grant County Resolution No. 109809 (1959) and
Grant County Resolution No. 109944 (1959) is amended as follows:
2.56.010 Appointments to civil service commission
Pursuant to RCW 41.14 et sea the Grant County Civil Service Commission shall be composed
of five persons who shall be appointed by the Board of County Commissioners. No person shall
be appointed who is not a citizen of the United States a resident of Grant County for at least two

years immediately preceding_ appointment, and an elector of Grant County. Member
appointment and all acts relating thereto shall be governed by provisions set forth in RCW 41.14
et seq.

Pursuant to RCW 41.14. et seq., there is created a civil service commission to be known as the
"Grant County Civil Service Commission." Theeng eral purpose of such commission shall
concern civil service for the sheriff's office with such commission to be governed by and subject
to provisions set forth in RCW 41.14 et sea.
Section 2. If any provision of this ordinance or its application to any person, entity or
circumstance is, for nay reason, held invalid or unconstitutional, the remainder of the ordinance
or its application to other persons entities or circumstances shall not be affected.
Section 3. This ordinance, amending the existing text for chapter 2.56 GCC, shall be
effective when signed.
