HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 01-165-CCBOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS Grant County, Washington A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA'S DECLARATION OF WAR AGAINST WORLWIDE TERRORISM AND, IN RECOGNITION OF MEMBERS OF THE ARMED FORCES RESPONDING TO THE CALL TO DUTY TO DEFEND FREEDOM RECITALS: RESOLUTION NO. 01 -165 -CC WHEREAS, the President of the United States of America has declared war on terrorism as the result of the acts of war perpetrated against the United States and, its citizens and others, on September 11, 2001; and WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners supportthe efforts of the United States of America and its allies in the struggle against world wide terrorism; and WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners desire to memorialize Grant County's deep appreciation of, and heartfelt support for, those individuals responding to the call to duty in the uniformed services of the United States of America and, their concomitant personal sacrifices to protect this country, its citizens and values and, freedom for all throughout the world; and WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners are mindful of the statutory rights provided to employees who have served or serve in the uniformed services, Now, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF GRANT COUNTY, WASHINGTON, as follows: Page 1 H:\FORMS\CIVIL8\M-R\RESOLUTIONS\SUPPORT. DOC Section 1: Grant County will compensate its employees in good standing who are qualifying members of the uniformed services of the United States of America responding to the call to duty in response to this war on terrorism for the difference between their rate of pay earned in the military service and their rate of pay which would have been earned had they not been called to active duty. Section 2: Grant County will continue to provide all health benefits to its employees in good standing who are qualifying members of the uniformed services of the United States of America who are responding to the call to duty against the war on terrorism and, who otherwise satisfy applicable requirements as set forth herein. Said health benefits will be provided through the end of the calendar month in which the employee last worked for Grant County when to responding to duty. Said health benefits will terminate after the aforementioned period, unless the employee do not receive coverage from the respective branch of military service of the United States of America, upon proper application by said employee. Grant County shall be provided proof of said application to the respective branch of military service of the United States of America by the employee. Section 3: Grant County employees covered under the provisions of this resolution who desire to participate in the benefits set forth herein shall comply with applicable rules and requirements regulating same, including without limitation, the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act and, Grant County's requirements. Section 4: Grant County elected officials and department heads will interface with Human Resources to process military leave of absence cases covered by this resolution.
