Citizen Public Comment Period
Glenn Stockwell, Ritzville, was in attendance to discuss the completion of the Columbia Basin
Project (CBP) in Grant County. Believes the Republican Party should sign a contract stating they
are willing to worlc in a bipartisan fashion on a fast track method for final completion of the CBP
with the Democratic Party. This should be done at State and Federal levels. The Republican Party
could act as an agent to force this issue to the table. The Commissioners are in support of the
completion of the CBP.
Mike Sallis and Jerry Thompson from the Grant County Veterans Coalition thanked the past
Commissioners and present Commissioners for their support, He discussed the situation of
homeless Veterans in the state. The Secretary of Veteran Affairs stated they will be spending g.z
billion dollars on homeless Veterans this year. The Coalition is going after state funding that will
assist families, not just single Veterans. This program will assist in preventing homelessness. Mr.
Sallis would like a letter of support and he is interested in using the old K-Mart building to house
homeless veterans and their families. He would like a rneeting in the evening with the Veterans
Coalition and Commissioners. This meeting was set for February 15, 2011 at 5:3o p.m.
Robert Buys (former Fair Association member) came in to discuss the changes to the Fair
Association and is in support of the Board's decision to not renew the F'air Association contract.
The Commissioners told of the terms that will be assigned and there will be term limits. There
will also be a Commissioner ex-officio on the Committee. Asked the Commissioners if the Tractor
Pulling Organization donated money to put reversible fans in the building, would the money go
towards the fans only? The Board said yes, they would make sure. Commissioner Swartz
recommended the Tractor Pull organization apply for funding from the Tourism Commission. He
also stated how he enjoys working with Vern Cummings. The Board thanked him for coming in.
